Dear reader,
For almost have of my life I have been traveling by myself around the world. Since the age of 15 my mother has send me to America by myself and ever since I have been flying to all parts of the world. I love to travel, see new countries and meet new people on the way. During this time traveling has become hard. The rules and regulations with regards to which country you may or may not fly changes every day again. It doesn't look like things are getting better soon either.
Luckily I have been able to escape to Portugal for nine days to relax and recharge my battery. This trip was a last minute and yet another of my solo adventures around the world. This week I am going to dive in why I enjoy traveling by myself, I will talk about why it is not hard or awkward to travel by yourself and how you can make traveling by yourself your success or what it can mean for your success.
Traveling alone:
Traveling alone is very common, maybe more then you think. A lot of people like to travel by them self so that they can do what they want, where they want and when they want. Traveling by yourself gives you a lot of freedom and power to do anything in the world that you want. With social media and good preparations you are able to meet a lot of like minded people a long the way. You might then want to travel together for a while and split ways along the trip.
My first trip by myself was traveling to the United States to do an internship at my aunt and uncles jobs for high school. Instead of staying in the Netherlands like most of my classmates my mom suggested that I do something totally different. I was the first time that I was going to fly by myself across the world. Since then I have been flying back and forth by myself. My first real big trip was about five years ago, I worked all summer to save up for a trip in South East Asia. For three months I was going to travel by myself to discover a new continent that I have never been at.
The non awkwardness of traveling by yourself:
Being able to travel by yourself shows you that you are an independent person and you can step out your bubble and truly do what you wish to do. There are countless people that are traveling alone. By staying in areas that are recommended for backpackers or solo travelers you will have bars, expeditions and other hang outs where you will meet tons of people. With social media it is easier to connect with other people and maybe even travel together for a while.
The first thing people ask is are you going to travel by yourself or with who are you going, but when you tell them that you are going to travel by yourself they act a bit surprised and you can sense a tone of bravery. I do like to travel with friends but sometimes it feels just so good to be able explore something by yourself. meet new people and you just live on the pace that you decide for yourself. The only plan when traveling by yourself is your plan.
The success of a solo traveler:
We got rid of all the awkwardness and the idea of traveling solo sound very nice. Your success in traveling solo is you. You will learn so much about yourself, what you are made of and how independent you are. There is no other way to discover yourself, know what you want or what you want to become then by traveling by yourself. As I mentioned earlier the only plan is your plan, if you just want to hang out by a pool and read for the day then that is what you got to do.
For me the success of traveling alone means to learn more about myself, to get myself out of my normal life and do something unique. I have seen great places in the world and I think life would be wasted in an office for 30 years with no chance to travel. The success also comes from learning to be independent, you need a place to stay, food to eat and transportation to get from one place to the next. By traveling you learn how to be independent and what it takes to make your own plans.
I don't think traveling is for everybody. Some people don't like flying or it just doesn't interest them. They get bored from your stories and just like the way everything is at home. Luckily my mother put me on that plane when I was 15, since then I have been traveling around the world by myself. No one else is going to give you that holiday, break or experience. You have got to do it all by yourself, once you are on the plane nothing can stop you anymore and the world is yours to explore.
Thank you for reading and see you next week.
