Week 41: Get out of your comfort zone!!

Dear reader,

"A situation where one feels save or at ease"

For this weeks blog I have thought about many different titles that would best explain this weeks story and lesson, but get out your comfort zone would work the best way. As the definition states it is the area where you will save, it is your bubble what requires little to no effort and the rewards are slim to none. Every one has their comfort zone and sometimes you need to step out of your little bubble and do something unexpected. This can be frightening or scary but you may discover new things you never new about yourself.

This week I am going to share my story about getting out of my comfort zone and doing the unexpected. I think part of your personality divines your comfort zone just as the fact that how much you are willing to put on the line. So I am going to share my story and I am going to look at how getting out of your comfort zone can have great influence on your success as well as expanding your zone.

My comfort zone:

I like my comfort of my house, friends and family nearby just as my job. It are all different bubbles where I feel save and I be and do what I want or wish to be. Getting out of my comfort zone is something I do rarely but I sometimes push myself because I desire it or feel like I deserved it. I think your personality determines your comfort zone. Being and introvert I enjoy being alone and within my bubble, I chose whom and what I let in and for how long. Taking time to step back into my bubble is what I often need, either to recharge my battery or just to be by myself for a moment.

With the second lock down phase and restaurants closing again I had no idea what I should do with my free time. I was having a drink with my boss and told him that I wanted to get out for a while. I could feel that I needed it and I knew it would be good for me. Mainly I work for long periods of time and take longer vacations after that. But because of the world gripped by the corona virus the possibilities are slim. Traveling has been put on hold and with the fall and winter coming I can only imagine how many people would get depressed.

My story:

While having the drinks with my boss and telling him that I wanted to get out for a while he offered me his house in Portugal. It sounds like a good idea, escape the cold and grey weather back home and spend sometime under the Portuguese sun. The next morning I checked for flights and called just to check if it was still okay. The green light has been giving. But then my comfort zone starts to kick in, I got a bit nervous about booking flights and traveling by myself and spending a week by myself in Portugal. But I said F* it I need this so I will go.

It was Wednesday morning and I called my boss again, I told him I booked my ticket and I am leaving Friday morning early. Wow, this is probably one of the most spontaneous things I have ever done. I have never decided, booked and went on vacation in time span of less then 72 hours. I asked my friends or anyone wanted to join but it was going to be just me. I have been traveling the world by myself since I was 13 years old, but often it would be to my family in the United States. I did do three months in South East Asia by myself but I knew some people there and I met a lot of people on the way. That trip was also five years ago and times are different now. The thing I kept in mind if I don't go now then I won't know when I will go.

Comfort zone and success:

Stepping out of your comfort zone has major influence on your success and where you want to be in life. I would have stayed in my comfort zone I wouldn't be laying next a pool under the sun writing this blog now. For some people it is easier to step out and do something unexpected. For others they enjoy being in the places and with the people that are familiar to them. If you are able to step out once and a while and do something you really want then you will learn new things about yourself, you will feel greater confidence and you will reach more success.

So once and a while expand your comfort zone, do the unexpected. Don't tell people about what you are going to do. Do it and show them that you have done it. Only by stepping out and doing what you wish to do would make you able to discover new things and possibilities about yourself. So expand your zone once and a while. Ask yourself the question what I want to do and the answer would be their, don't sit and think about it but take action and get yourself out of the bubble that you are in.

Once I have booked there was no turning back, so pushing yourself to new possibilities and experiences is always good. There are always hundreds of excuses why you shouldn't do something. But if you truly desire something then go after it, step out of your bubble and discover new things. Maybe it would not be as expected but you have brought yourself to a new level and gained new experiences. Last week I looked at my progress report and the one think that was still missing was traveling, under traveling I wrote down explore and go and that is exactly what I have done.

Thank you for reading, enjoy your week and greetings from the sunny Portugal!!

Week 60: Learn from others!!

Dear reader,  If there is something you want to do, know more about or become better at then often you can look for the right people that have been able to achieve what you want to do. By finding the right people that are able to teach you is far greater than keep making the same mistakes and failing at what you are willing to achieve. Most people that are good in something and are specialized are glad to help you to become better at whatever it is.  During the last few years I have been discovering most of my development myself. But at some moments and with somethings it is good to have someone you can ask for advice or more information. This week I am going to talk about what you can learn from others and what they can learn from you. In taking the steps to reach your success having someone around can have great advantages and maybe you can even help each other in some way or another.  Share the knowledge:   In this day and age it is easy to gain any type of knowle...

Week 12: Investing opportunity of a lifetime!!

Dear reader, These are crazy times, every country is going in lockdown, streets are empty, no airplanes in the sky. The world is changing as we know it. I use this time to educate myself. I have bought several books and I am planning on buying some more in the next weeks. But why is this the investing opportunity of a lifetime? Isn't the stock market falling down every day, aren't the business closed now and everyone is working from home..??? As Warren Buffet says: Attempt to be fearful when others are greedy and to be greedy when others are fearful. Four opportunities of a lifetime: In our lifetime we will have four or five great business cycles where we can profit from. This means we are able to buy the business that we like so much at a discount from where it was several months ago. Think like you are doing your shopping. You love steaks, this week steak is at $5,- a pound, that's a lot for a steak, now you wait a week and you see that the same steak is sel...

Week 10: The everything bubble!!

Dear reader, The markets have been having some rough weeks. The outbreak of the Coronavirus has spread to over 100 countries and several countries have been in lockdown. The virus has impacted a lot on the world economy and will continue to do so for the rest of the year. Besides the Coronavirus there are more things affecting the global markets and the financial systems. The war on oil has spiked a great rally these last days and will continue to have great effect on different markets and industries. What is the everything bubble? I came about a video from Mike Maloney about a year and a half ago. Mike is big investor in global markets particularly to the world of precious metals such as gold and silver. His video's are of good inspiration and knowledge. He has a very openminded towards the different markets and the research he has done is very great to see things out of different perspectives. The title of his video is the everything bubble and I will leave a link t...
