Dear reader,
"Newly received or noteworthy information, especially about recent events"
We have many different forms of news, from the 'traditional media' to the 'social media'. But with so much different types of news and outlets what is the true definition about 'noteworthy information'. Four 24 hours a day we have information flowing in and out our systems, either to inform us or to mis form us. The news has a powerful role in the type of information we get.
For the last several years I have realized that news has changed, not only the way news is presented but also the type of news we received has changed. For this year not a lot of good has happened, such as the Australian wild fires, to the corona virus and now black life's matter protests all around the world. For several years now I have been toning down on the amount of news I let flow into my system. In most cases the amounts are zero to nun. Today I am going to talk about why I don't follow the news, how news has changed and what news and success mean.
Traditional to Social media:
Traditional media is know as your news paper, country wide or locally news stations whether on the radio or on the television. Often these are big companies and have been around for many years. They have a dominance or monopoly within a country or region. The traditional media is a 'reliable' source of media where people have gone to for information that has been happening around the world.
Social media is the newest form of media, it hasn't been around for very long but it has a strong influence on our culture. With platforms such as Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and Youtube every one can provide and share content that can be seen as news and shared around the world. The algorithms have been designed so that you will see news and information that is designed for you. Such as your political view, interests and hobbies, ect.
I don't follow the news:
Actually I don't consume news. In a recent statistic because of the corona virus and lockdowns they forecast that average amount of time spend on media in 2020 is about 13 hours a day!! That is about 81% of your day consuming media. This is the social media as well as the traditional media. You have on your phone screen time, so that you can see how much time you spend on what specific application.
The reason I don't consume news is because I don't find it relevant to what I am doing at the moment. The 'news' is not informing me in what so ever way that it has to be part of my daily routine or live. I believe that the news is not informing us in the right way and that the majority of the news published is rather negative then positive or informing. Not keeping up with the news and current events in the world have not have been affecting my life. I have more time and energy to focus on other things that are more effective with my time and energy.
The news and success:
I believe that news has a major influence on your success. If you are able to filter out the BS from the actual facts and information you can discover great things. Also you need to be able to listen to both sides of the story. You need to be able to hear what each opposing team has to say. This will expand your view and you will be able to gain more and useful information. The only hard part is that it takes a lot of work and time. But if you put in the time the results will be enormous.
Being able to have successful time management and just spend a little amount of time each day to catch up with the news is just enough. Your mind and brain can only consume so much information at one time. So being able to filter out what is important and relevant is more effective then just continuously and endlessly browsing the news and social media. With a little time management and set one daily moment to check out the news is better then the need to check it out every hour or instant you grab your phone.
News is important and gaining the right information is just as important as keeping up with the right information. Being able to filter what is important and what is not can have major impact on what you let to control your daily life. I hope I have informed you about why I don't want and need to spend my time consuming news, just as what the most successful people do; listen to both sides of the story before you make your final decision.
Thank you for reading and see you next week!
