Dear reader,
Alcohol is a drink that contains the recreational drug ethanol. It is produced by fermentation of grains, fruits or other types of sugar.
You can find alcohol almost everywhere. You will see commercials on your television or billboards on the street. At every supermarket you are able to purchase a beverage that contains alcohol. For centuries alcohol has been a very popular beverage. From the roman empire until now fruit has been the major source for alcoholic beverages.
For several years I have been working in restaurants. Now I am working in a cafe restaurant and I can see first hand how much alcohol people consume and how it changes them. I have been a consumer and it has changed me to. Today I am going to take you into my world of alcohol and I am going to share my experiences and how it helps me on my journey to success.
Work and alcohol:
For my job alcohol contains a major part of daily job. At my job we severe anything from a low alcohol beverage to hard liquor. Everyone goes out to diner or to a bar for a different reason. Just like last weeks post it can be something of a habit for some people and a treat for someone else. Unfortunately I get to deal with both. People that start drinking at noon because they are addicted or people that are enjoying a holiday.
The darker side of my experience is that people consume way to much alcohol. Some get in fights, with their spouse or people they don't know. Others even get in their car after to many beers, wines or what so ever. Unfortunately our responsibility ends after they leave our property. Some have been doing it for years and it has become a habit or a routine for them.
Their is also a light side. When ever we have parties it stimulates people to let go a bit. To socialize more, dance (even if you don't) or to have deeper conversations. Their is limit everyone has until they had enough or until the light side goes to dark. But I am going to take you further into my life with drinking alcohol.
Life and alcohol:
When I was growing up the age limit for drinking was 16 in the Netherlands. Now it is changed to 18 years of age. For most of the world the age to start drinking is around the 18 to 21. Of course everyone starts drinking at an earlier age in life. Often it starts with a beer, wine or low alcohol mix drink. Over time the preference may change or develop to more harder liquors.
This year I made choice to drink less alcohol. I am done with the hangovers, feeling sick, feeling miserable and basically waisting a day because I have been drinking. In January I participated in dry January and kept it up half way to February. No I am reaching for a new goal. 90 days of no alcohol! Because of the corona crisis I have been challenging myself to new habits and or routines. For so far I am at 65 days of no drinking and I feel better then ever. I have the energy every morning to get out of bed, to do my job and to life a life without alcohol.
I will probably have a few drinks now and then. But it would be whenever I want to. I do realize that my friends and colleagues are very supportive. Some even admire my determination to keep staying sober. More often I meet and hear stories about how people have changed their lives by quitting drinking. It is often inspiring to hear how it has changed and to see the person they have become. I have made a new rule for myself. Being 1% hangover doesn't fit my life style.
What I have learned from alcohol:
There are many things I have learned from drinking alcohol myself and watching other people being intoxicated. What I have learned for myself is that it opens me up more. It makes it easier to talk to girls or socialize with others. I have learned many times over that I didn't know where my limit was and I kept drinking until I was way to drunk. I have learned that it effects your emotional stability just as well as your sleep cycle.
What I have learned from others is that when people drink they tend to speak the truth. Do you want the real answer? Go drinking and before you know it you know everything you want. What I have also learned is that people say things they didn't intend to say or you worn't supposed to hear. Alcohol destroys many relationships, life's, career's and families.
Wether you drink or not it is up to you. You need to take full responsibility for your self and your actions. If you want to reduce your drinking start by no drinking for a week and build your way up slowly. If you are an alcoholic you must contact your doctor first because the complications are dangerous. My goal is to inform you, share my experience with you. If you like to drink then just do it. It is your life and your choice. If you have any questions or comments leave them down below and I will get back to you.
