Week 9: The power of books!

Dear reader,

During most of my life from high school until my late 20's I have never really picked up a book to read. Almost two years ago I was watching a video on this thing called Rich dad, Poor dad. It sounded very interesting to me. So I went out to the bookstore, not to get one book but three. All from the same author and all about personal finance.

In roughly two years I read about 20 different books all in the range of my interest, money and success. I had quite college and I thought I would never go back to school again. Now I read almost a book a week and I read more books than I ever have done. My goal is to read 20 books this year. I all ready finished 6 books, If I keep up this pace I will have reached my goal before the summer!!

Why to read?

I never really got or understood reading. When I was a kid my mother would to me and my brother the Harry Potter books during the summer. As a kid it is fun to read and let your mind wonder off and fantasies about the story or character. During high school reading is not cool and you would be called a nerd.

Reading should be fun, either for entertainment or to gain knowledge. The second one has sparked me. I wanted to learn something. I was watching a lot of Youtube video's about the topics that had my interest, but it was not until I picked up a book that I really started to learn something new. The major change I have come to learn since reading is that my vocabulary and speaking skills have gone up very much. I feel smarter more then ever and my writing has improved by reading to.

What to read?

I mentioned earlier there are two reasons to read, for entertainment or to gain knowledge. Reading for entertainment are novels or magazines. Reading to gain knowledge is a whole different ball game. Reading for knowledge is to spark your mind and see things in a different way and learn skills or pursue new insights.

For me reading for knowledge was fun, I could read the books I wanted to read that would help me to understand different types of subjects, gain more knowledge about different subjects and become more successful in the different subjects. It started with a book about personal finance and continuing on the journey of reading I now read not only books about finance but also about psychology, mindfulness, personal development and self help. This because there is so much correlation between the different subjects and the most successful people in the world know and understand them selfs so they can make the best decisions possible.

What I read.

I read a lot of different books. Books about money, finance, investing, business, psychology, self development, personal development, mindfulness and more. I learn to read to understand myself better, understand other people, to make effective decisions, to understand business, to be able to invest in my future as well as to grow financially.

I want to share a list of my 5 books that have helped me the most in the last few years. It is not ranked 1 to 5 but these books have gave me in different areas a better understanding about where I want to go and what I want to achieve.

1: Rich dad, Poor dad, by Robert Kyiosaki. This is the number one book in personal finance. It has helped my very much to get a clear understanding about my own financial situations and it has helped me save a lot of money as well the tool to start investing.

2: The richest man in Babylon, by George Samuel Clason. This is yet another book about personal finance. It dates back to one of the oldest and richest times in the world and their method for using money, saving and investing is used by the most successful people in the world today.

3: The secret, by Rhonda Byrne. Just like the richest man in Babylon the lessons from this book date back centuries and it is also being used by the most successful people in the world today. This book also has a documentary and it is available on Netflix.

4: Quiet, by Susan Cain. This is the best book to divine the difference between introverts and extroverts. Susan Cain has done great research to find out how to live in a world that would never shut up. It has helped me a lot to understand more about myself and why I do different things than others. (I am an introvert.)

5: Think and grow rich, by Napoleon Hill. This is one of the best books in the world. It is a book I recommend you to read and continue to read. I have read the book twice and one time even studied the book. It is recommended by the most successful people in the world just like all the self help guru's. This is a book that I will continue to read and study every year.

Let me know if you have read any of these books and feel free to share your most inspiring books.
Thank you for reading and see you next week.

Week 60: Learn from others!!

Dear reader,  If there is something you want to do, know more about or become better at then often you can look for the right people that have been able to achieve what you want to do. By finding the right people that are able to teach you is far greater than keep making the same mistakes and failing at what you are willing to achieve. Most people that are good in something and are specialized are glad to help you to become better at whatever it is.  During the last few years I have been discovering most of my development myself. But at some moments and with somethings it is good to have someone you can ask for advice or more information. This week I am going to talk about what you can learn from others and what they can learn from you. In taking the steps to reach your success having someone around can have great advantages and maybe you can even help each other in some way or another.  Share the knowledge:   In this day and age it is easy to gain any type of knowle...

Week 12: Investing opportunity of a lifetime!!

Dear reader, These are crazy times, every country is going in lockdown, streets are empty, no airplanes in the sky. The world is changing as we know it. I use this time to educate myself. I have bought several books and I am planning on buying some more in the next weeks. But why is this the investing opportunity of a lifetime? Isn't the stock market falling down every day, aren't the business closed now and everyone is working from home..??? As Warren Buffet says: Attempt to be fearful when others are greedy and to be greedy when others are fearful. Four opportunities of a lifetime: In our lifetime we will have four or five great business cycles where we can profit from. This means we are able to buy the business that we like so much at a discount from where it was several months ago. Think like you are doing your shopping. You love steaks, this week steak is at $5,- a pound, that's a lot for a steak, now you wait a week and you see that the same steak is sel...

Week 10: The everything bubble!!

Dear reader, The markets have been having some rough weeks. The outbreak of the Coronavirus has spread to over 100 countries and several countries have been in lockdown. The virus has impacted a lot on the world economy and will continue to do so for the rest of the year. Besides the Coronavirus there are more things affecting the global markets and the financial systems. The war on oil has spiked a great rally these last days and will continue to have great effect on different markets and industries. What is the everything bubble? I came about a video from Mike Maloney about a year and a half ago. Mike is big investor in global markets particularly to the world of precious metals such as gold and silver. His video's are of good inspiration and knowledge. He has a very openminded towards the different markets and the research he has done is very great to see things out of different perspectives. The title of his video is the everything bubble and I will leave a link t...
