Dear reader,
For a while now I wanted to talk about the subject introversion vs extroversion. Last year I had the chance to read the book Quiet by Susan Cain and that has helped me gain a better understanding about the subject as well as myself and others.
In this weeks blog I will be taking you about my findings and journeys in the world that won't shut up and living quietly in a noisy world.
How did it start:
When going to high school a lot was changing for me, for my family in very different ways. Me and my brother where starting to become adults, my parents had some up and down moments and often during dinner time there would be arguments about why things didn't happen and who's fault it was.
My father had someone come over to his work that did a training and testing about introversion and extroversion. He got a better understanding about himself and he explained the situation we had as a family and asked if the come over so we could learn more about our selfs and each other to work better and more efficient as a family.
One day each of us did the MBTI test one on one with consultant. A few weeks later he came back and shared with us the results and gave us examples what happens in different types of situations with the different type of people.
What am I?:
I learned that day that I was an introvert, cool, now what? For many years I have not done anything with the information given to me on that day of the testing. I just lived my life like a normal kid and teenager and eventually turning into an adult. A few months ago I came across different books and one of them was a world wide bestseller from Susan Cain, Quiet.
She (also an introvert) started to show me that introverts where everywhere in the world, except for Harvard Business School. After reading her book I got the great understanding why I react in a specific way and why I prefer to stand on the side line and watch than to stand in the middle and be noisy.
The weird thing about me is that I work in a busy restaurant, where you are being put to the test on a daily basis with a lot of different stimulations going on. At the end of the day I need to take a break. The work is great and I have learned how to use and charge my battery so I can go for the whole day and have enough energy before the day ends.
What are you?:
Now a days a lot of companies have there new employees take different tests so that they can get the best understanding of who is working for them. If you don't know whether you are an introvert or extrovert you can find different tests online and take them to see for your self how well you fall in the spectrum.
Remember that it is an indicator, people have both introvert and extrovert qualities and tendencies. The answer of the test consists of four parts wherein the first and last part will never change. The middle part will change due to your changing life, new interests, etc...
This subject is very huge and it contains a lot of different insides. So this blog was more about my experience and how I got to learn about it. In a future blog I would continue more about specific areas and experiences.
Thank you for reading,
Franklin, moments2success
